  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 medium apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and diced into 1/4-inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  3. Cream softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; mix well.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
