  • 6 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced (about 56 cups)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour, ¼ cup granulated sugar, and ½ teaspoon salt for the crust. Cut in ½ cup cold unsalted butter until crumbly; add 2-3 tablespoons ice water until dough forms. Press into the pan and bake for 15 minutes.
  3. Combine sliced Granny Smith apples with ½ cup granulated sugar, ¼ cup all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon lemon juice in another bowl.
  4. For streusel topping, mix 1 cup all-purpose flour, ½ cup packed light brown sugar, ¼ cup granulated sugar, and ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon; cut in ½ cup cold unsalted butter until crumbly.
  5. Spread apple filling over the crust and top with streusel. Bake for an additional 35-45 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Allow to cool completely before cutting into bars.
